How to communicate with people with Hearing Loss?
The key to successful communication requires the efforts of everyone involved in a conversation. Even when the person wearing hearing aids and using active listening strategies, it is crucial that all other participants consistently use good communication strategies.
In order to increase the effectiveness of communication for people with hearing loss, it is important that others involved in the conversation properly.

- Face and make eye contact with your listener.
Speak slowly in a slightly louder voice than usual and in a clear, slow manner.
- Check for understanding by asking questions such as: "Are you following me?" "Do you understand what I'm saying?" Or "Can you hear me now?"

- Minimize background noise by turning off fans, closing doors or windows or asking others to be quiet when speaking with someone who has a hearing loss.
- Sit or stand directly in front of your listener, facing them.
- Keep the person's primary hearing aid on if possible and use visual cues instead of other sounds to communicate (e.g., writing).
- Get closer to better understand what your listener is saying.
- Take turns speaking and listening. Ask questions or make comments throughout the conversation rather than waiting for lengthy periods of time to speak.
Repeat information if necessary, taking care not to say it in a patronizing way.
